Time to Talk Day is today. It’s a campaign to promote conversations about mental health, and this year, Time to Talk is encouraging us to get comfortable talking about it.
In 2024, Time to Talk found nearly two thirds of the UK public put on a brave face to avoid talking about their mental health. And nearly half of us are less likely to open up so that we don’t worry others.
Does this sound like you?
If it does, it’s understandable. Our culture has taught us to carry a stiff upper lip… keep calm and carry on… pull ourselves together… but talking openly and honestly can support better mental health for everyone. It reduces the stigma around mental health. And sharing what we’re struggling with means we’re not dealing with it alone.
Being there for someone can make a big difference too. You don’t have to fix what someone is going through. Just listening, being non-judgemental and patient is enough for someone to feel heard.
At GIVE, we’re here to listen if you’re ready to talk. We can signpost you to local services and our activities provide a safe space for you to connect with others and share.
